SPEAKING INFORMATION
Ned speaking
In Ned Vizzini's acclaimed novel It's Kind of a Funny Story, an overstressed student beset by adult responsibilities finds redemption in the last place he'd expect: a psych hospital. Ned's lecture, Coping in a Culture of Unrealistic Expectations, is based on his own experience in conjunction with his novel.

Ned is represented by CreativeWell and is available to speak and conduct writing workshops. For booking information email info@creativewell or call 800/743-9182.

Read more about Ned in this pdf.

Ned's speaking engagements have included: Yale, NYU Tisch, Brixton Academy (UK), National Association for Gifted Children, National Council of Teachers of English, The Dalton School, and The Brooklyn Public Library, among others.

FAQ

1. Is Ned's program appropriate for all ages?
Yes. Ned tailors his speaking engagements for the audience age group and will run any material by teachers, professors or administrators before an engagement, if asked.

2. How many times will Ned speak per day?
Three.

3. How long are the presentations?
Plan on forty-five minutes to an hour, depending on how extensive a Q&A; period you have in mind. Ned can tailor his presentation to any schedule.

4. How large can the groups be?
No maximum. Ned can speak in an intimate classroom or library setting or to an auditorium with hundreds of students.

5. What about writing workshops?
For a classroom-sized presentation, a writing workshop with Ned can be fun and enlightening. Ned loves doing writing workshops and counts them as one presentation towards his daily limit of three. Students in writing workshops will complete a free write and have their work analyzed by Ned in a friendly and non-judgmental environment.

6. How can we purchase books for the visit?
Books can be ordered at a 40% discount from Ned's publishers, Hyperion/Miramax Books (It's Kind of a Funny Story, Be More Chill, 800.759.0191 x1906, speak with Katherine Kron) and Random House (Teen Angst? Naaah..., 800/733-3000). Allow five to seven days for delivery. You can make these books available for student purchase at cover price (using the extra money to defray the cost of having Ned speak) or you can pass the savings onto the students. Any books not sold can be returned for a full refund. It is definitely NOT mandatory for you to sell books at Ned's presentations.

7. Does Ned autograph books?
Absolutely.

8. How can we prepare our students for a visit?
The more familiar the students are with Ned's books, the better prepared they will be. Other ideas to try: contests, writing projects. Have fun!

9. How much does it cost to have Ned visit our school?
Please contact Jason Corliss at CreativeWell for details.
